9 ROLES FOR GETTING AROUND SIRACUSA AND ITS PROVINCE #1
1) Ask and you will be told: Sicilians are known to be very hospitable with foreigners , take advantage of it then and ask, people will be happy to give you best advice, even they do not speak english they will use famous italian mimic style ). 2) Buses have no fast lanes so during peak hours they will probably be late! 3) Waiting for the Bus: often the waiting stops are not in the shade therefore waiting can be more tiring than walking, better to evaluate about what to do. 4) Moving inside Syracuse city: for Urban transport are available both the Bus SR (Siracusa) D'amare and the Bus Open Tour, the first makes more stops, both cover the tourist routes. In addition there is an urban bus of Company AST that reaches the upper part of the city not properly touristy .It can be used to reach Castello Eurialo by the way N°11 & N26. 5)Buses from Syracuse to the beaches (20km radius from Syracuse) The main beaches can be reached via the AST Urban line, the most far away ones via extra-urban AST or INTERBUS with changes. 6)Buses to the province of Syracuse and to all other destinations of Sicily: AST & INTERBUS companies are the main lines of the area that allow you to move between city and city. Additionally, during summer months, an Open Tour line is active connecting Syracuse Avola and Noto. 7)Hiring a bike: Keep in mind that there are no bike lanes and that July/August temperatures are above 30 degrees. 8) Driving in Sicily: it is not difficult, just be practical, do not get angry with the possible unruly ; the potholed roads will be probably listed into Unesco Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Most of people are awake while driving, the common problem unfortunately is the use of phones while driving. 9) Getting around by train: Definitely a romantic experience, OK for short-to-medium-haul travel, challenging for longer journeys due to the multiple stops made by the regional trains.

Going through the arid Sicilian landscapes of summer and lush in winter, with the relaxed timing of a train traveling at 70-90km/h and with the 70s-80s carriages, definitely has the taste of a retro trip suitable for those who live the trip as an experience and not as a means to reach the goal. Unlike the Buses the train is more punctual, the air conditioning is the prerogative of the 1st class, since it is a regional train it makes all the intermediate stops. Sicily is served only by REGIONAL trains, for time schedule consult the website ☞ Trenitalia Regional
A couple of times a year a special train called "the Baroque train" tours the cities of Syracuse, Ragusa, Noto, Scicli and Modica sites awarded by Unesco as "World Heritage" . Till now , as far as we know , there is not new schedule for summer 2019.
